Rangers Offseason Plan : 3 Simple Calls

Let’s start by saying what everyone knows: this team is FLAWED. It was built with no real direction and couldn’t help but fail with this collection of spare parts, playing out of position, and expected to excel. The fact that this club even sniffed the postseason is testament to the incredible talent of franchise cornerstone Henrik Lundqvist and an inspired first season on Broadway by sniper extraordinaire Marian Gaborik. Even with the huge holes that management could never fill despite making in-season moves and numerous call-ups from the minors, the team still strung together an impressive first month of the season and an exciting last few weeks to make a serious run at the final playoff spot. This team is not in need of a total rebuild and there shouldn’t be close to the wholesale turnover we saw at the end of last season but there are a few moves that GM Glen Sather must make if this team is going to make it back to the playoffs and actually be expected to make noise once it does.

Marian Gaborik had a goal and 2 assists but it wasn't enough as the Rangers fell 4-3 to St. Louis

Blues 4 Rangers 3

The Rangers missed another golden opportunity to gain ground on the eighth place Boston Bruins as they lost a heartbreaker to the visiting St. Louis Blues 4-3 at the Garden. St. Louis’ Paul Kariya scored his 400th career goal to give the Blues the victory in a contest where the Rangers just couldn’t find a [...]

Slats Stands Pat

Slats Stands Pat

On one of the most anti-climactic deadline days in recent memory, Rangers GM Glen Sather decided, surprisingly, not to jump into the fray and only pulled off two minor transactions before today’s league imposed 3 PM cutoff. Sather added the veteran depth defenseman they had lacked since the start of the season when they acquired [...]

After a long night and day of intense speculation all over the web, the news finally became official just after midnight as the Blueshirts completed their rumored trade with Calgary sending forwards Ales Kotalik and Christopher Higgins to the Flames in exchange for Olli Jokinen and Brandon Prust. Both players are expected to join the [...]

Jokinen licking his lips at the prospect of centering Gaborik?

This Is NOT a Jokinen

TSN Canada is reporting that the Rangers are close to announcing a deal that would send forwards Ales Kotalik and Christopher Higgins to the Calgary Flames for C Olli Jokinen and F Brandon Prust. Jokinen, 31, has 11 goals and 24 assists in 55 games with the Flames this season. He is in the final [...]

Mike Sullivan to join Rangers Staff (Updated)

In a move that has been expected since last season’s hiring of head coach John Tortorella, Mike Sullivan will re-join his former boss on the Rangers bench as associate coach. Sullivan has ties to the organization as he was drafted 67th overall by the Rangers in 1987, yet remained at Boston University and never suited [...]

News Round-up: Zherdev Speaks, Zubov Leaves and Potter Signs

Not much hard news today but some interesting quotes from Nkolai Zherdev to magazine Sport-Express. Zherdev talks about the Rangers, his interest in the KHL and about where he’d like to play should he not return to New York next season. To me the most telling quote from the enigmatic winger comes when he is [...]

Roster Reshaping Continues

In a surprising flurry of activity after a quiet weekend, The Rangers continued their recent roster overhaul by re-signing one of their core youngsters and sending another one packing to the desert. Earlier today, The Rangers agreed to terms with RFA F Ryan Callahan on a 2 year deal worth 4.6 miilion dollars. If you [...]

Free Agency Rumblings (Updated)

There are some rumblings on the free agency front this morning concerning the Rangers. The most surprising news comes from The Fourth Period where Derek Morris’ agent says that he has spoken several times with the Rangers and that they are still interested in bringing Morris back to Broadway. The agent also says that length [...]

New Beginnings

I decided to launch the website today because this is the perfect time to enter into the stratosphere of New York Rangers hockey. Just a few days ago, The Rangers made their selections in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft with an eye on developing young talent for the future of the franchise. Here is a [...]
