Rangers Offseason Plan : 3 Simple Calls

Let’s start by saying what everyone knows: this team is FLAWED. It was built with no real direction and couldn’t help but fail with this collection of spare parts, playing out of position, and expected to excel. The fact that this club even sniffed the postseason is testament to the incredible talent of franchise cornerstone Henrik Lundqvist and an inspired first season on Broadway by sniper extraordinaire Marian Gaborik. Even with the huge holes that management could never fill despite making in-season moves and numerous call-ups from the minors, the team still strung together an impressive first month of the season and an exciting last few weeks to make a serious run at the final playoff spot. This team is not in need of a total rebuild and there shouldn’t be close to the wholesale turnover we saw at the end of last season but there are a few moves that GM Glen Sather must make if this team is going to make it back to the playoffs and actually be expected to make noise once it does.

Canadiens 6 Rangers 0

The Rangers were shut out for the second straight game and Henrik Lundqvist was pulled after surrendering 4 goals as the Canadiens hammered the Blueshirts 6-0 in Montreal. John Tortorella doesn’t have much to say to the media after watching his team get embarrased by the Canadiens Saturday night. This team obviously has some problems [...]

Rangers 8 Lightning 2

All the Rangers coaches were hoping for following their impressive 6-2 win over the Canadiens on Sunday was a repeat of the effort the team gave during that victory. Not only did they receive the same effort but the players took it to another level as they jumped on the Lightning early and controlled play [...]

Rangers 7 Blue Jackets 4

The Rangers finally showed their fans what could be, if the team uses it’s forecheck, plays for sixty minutes and most importantly stays out of the penalty box. Last night’s 7-4 dismantling of the visiting Columbus Blue Jackets was far from a perfect performance by the struggling Blueshirts but was definitely a big step towards [...]

Rangers 2 Senators 1 (Shootout)

The Rangers played only their second overtime game of the season and participated in their first shootout of the year today against Ottawa and when all was said and done P.A. Parenteau was the hero for the Blueshirts. Parenteau, who was called up for the second time this season from Hartford on Friday, beat Ottawa [...]

Pregame Notes

With the call up of Hartford Wolfpack forward P.A. Parenteau, the Rangers line combinations for today’s game against the Ottawa Senators should look like this: Enver Lisin-Vinny Prospal-Marian Gaborik P.A. Parenteau- Christopher Higgins-Ales Kotalik Sean Avery-Artem Anisimov-Ryan Callahan Aaron Voros- Brian Boyle-Donald Brashear The Rangers will have 4 centers today, hoping to avoid a repeat [...]

Gaborik, Brashear Out vs. Isles

Marian Gaborik will miss tonight’s game against the Islanders with an injury that the Rangers are still not specifying other than to say it’s unrelated to Gaborik’s hip or groin. Coach Tortorella was asked if he was concerned and he said he was not. But when he was asked for a timetable going forward with [...]

Torts' benchings send a message that everyone is accountable.

Here are some of the notes and quotes from this morning’s skate: – Christopher Higgins worked yesterday with the fourth line but will return tonight to the wing with Brandon Dubinsky and Ryan Callahan as Torts wants to see how the two respond to their benchings when they face the Coyotes at MSG. -Brandon Dubinsky [...]

Henrik Starts, Brash May Sit

Henrik Lundqvist will get his sixth start of the season tonight when the Los Angeles Kings visit the Garden to face the red hot Rangers. Lundqvist has been outstanding so far compiling a 4-1 record and a 2.42 GAA in his previous five starts. He will attempt to stretch the Rangers’ winning streak to six [...]
